APISA is a student initiated organization at the University of California, Santa Cruz. We are devoted to building a stronger Asian American/ Pacific Islander (AA/PI) community by addressing issues concerning available safe spaces. We strive to bring critical consciousness of historical & ongoing struggles in order to engage in dialogue & action regarding diverse educational, social, cultural, & political issues. APISA fosters student empowerment to unite through a collective process, to take action & support social change.

what is motivation conference?

GLEN YI is a 4th year majoring in Literature. You can always catch Glen with a hat on unless he's rockin' a fresh cut--which rarely happens. He likes going to the beach & considers himself a "hip hop head". Glen relates himself to Walter Mitty from the film, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

SAOIMANU SOPE is a 4th year double-majoring in Film Production & Community Studies. She loves Do-It-Yourself projects inspired by Pinterest & likes to get crafty for no reason. Her favorite films are the entire Fast & Furious franchise. Vroom, vroom!

MEET THE COORDINATORS:

MOTIVATION CONFERENCE is housed under the Asian Pacific Islander Student Alliance (APISA) at UC Santa Cruz & operates out of the on-campus Outreach & Retention Center called Engaging Education. MC is a 3 day, 2 night conference that hosts non-yield students (students have not applied/been accepted to UCSC) for FREE! It was initiated for the sole purpose of outreaching to underrepresented & underresourced students of the Asian American or Pacific Islander community that aren't considering HIGHER EDUCATION as an option. The purpose of MC is to provide an opportunity for our participants to engage in critical dialogue & workshops regarding identity, culture, expression, & education. We hope that through this experience, MC will inspire our participants to pursue some form of higher education following their high school experience.
